Federal Liberal Party Holds Strong Lead on PEI

MQO Research spoke with 400 residents of Prince Edward Island to gauge the political temperature in the province for the January edition of our quarterly political poll: Atlantic Matters.

Federal Politics

According to the latest polling numbers, the Liberal Party has extended its lead over the Conservatives on PEI. Among decided and leaning voters:

  • Support for the Liberal Party jumped 8 percentage points to 52%.
  • Conservative support held steady at 30%.
  • Support for the Green Party edged down 4 percentage points to 10%.
  • NDP support also edged down 4 percentage points to 7%.

The undecided / no vote group held steady at 35%.

“We see vote moving to the federal Liberals,” said Stephen Moore, Vice-President at MQO Research. “If this continues, PEI is looking very good for Justin Trudeau and the Liberals.”

Government Performance

Rating for the leadership of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held steady with a mean score of 5.2 (on a 10- point scale).

The Atlantic Matters poll was conducted by telephone from January 21st to January 27th, 2019 and included 400 randomly selected eligible voters from across the province. The margin of error for the total sample is ± 4.0 percentage points 19 times out of 20.
